A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS

Once again many thanks to all who made donations of money and food etc for the Rescue in recent weeks. The final amounts up to Xmas have exceeded our expectations and is a very great help.
We have two cats reserved that will be off to their new homes early in the 2012 which makes an excellent start to the year.

XMAS GIFTS AND DONATIONS

Many thanks to all who have recently made donations to the Rescue and sent food and gifts for the kitties. This is greatly appreciated.

XMAS FUNDRAISING NEWS

We had a very busy run up to Xmas so I would like to thank everyone who donated goods for sale and people who helped on the stalls etc.
In October we raised £175.50, in November £255.00 and December £337.80.
I am now going to put my feet up and have a rest until Jan when we will start again at St Giles on the 14th. Elaine

A VERY MERRY XMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

A very Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year from everybody at Second Chance Cat Rescue to all our Friends, Supporters and Volunteers.
Everyone here at Second Chance Cat Rescue (both the "carers" and the cats) would like to say a huge thank you for all the help you have given us in order that more cats can find help in their time of need!
Whether you have been able to give one a new home , fostered one of our lodgers, donated cat food or saleable items to us or even passed on our contact details to someone needing help each one of these is important to us.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a "purrfect Christmas".
Thank you again from all of us. Brenda, Elaine, Sheelagh, Emma, Dave, Margaret, Richard and David.

ITEMS STILL NEEDED FOR OUR SALES

Many thanks for those who have donated or promised Bric a Brac etc for our car boot sales. This is all most welcome. We have a steady stream of these events over the next few months and always need costume jewellery, empty jewellery boxes, toys and bric a brac, dvds, books and the like to sell.

GRIMSBY AND DISTRICT MISSING PETS WEB SITE

As some of you will have noted the Grimsby Telegraph have dropped the Missing Pets page from their web site. This is a great shame as we have used this on many occasions with some success over the years. However I have set up a separate web site for Lost and Found pets in the Grimsby area and this is now up and running. It is early days yet and so far we have logged 2 Found cats. The site will take a while to get established and known and I will refine it as time goes on.
In the meantime it is available for all in North East Lincs who have Lost or Found cats, dogs or other pets if they e mail the Rescue ( address shown above ) with details and a picture if possible. I will add these as and when I am notified.
You can view the web site at http://www.grimsbyanddistrictmissingpets.org.uk/

WANTED GOOD QUALITY BRIC A BRAC

We are in urgent need of good quality bric a brac suitable for our car boot sales as we are running short. These sales provide a very good source of income for us so if anyone has anything suitable to donate please ring Elaine on 01469 569563 or ring the Cat Rescue Helpline 01469 561000.

PIXIE

Pixie PIXIE - Hi, I am a young handsome lad who has been staying with Second Chance for a while now but am beginning to get a bit bored. I am presently interviewing prospective new "owners" so if you feel you would like to be considered please ring 01469 56100, my PA will take a message! Unfortunately if you have young children or/and other pets you may be better opting for one of my friends here as I would prefer a home without any competition for attention! If I like you I will be a good boy and very loyal friend.! Luv PIXIE.
NOTE - Pixie is a fine cat and will be a great asset to any household. Thoroughly recommended.

NEW FOSTER HOMES

We are always on the look out for foster carers for our special needs kitties. Some of these cats are elderly and some have health issues. In these cases we will give support with any vets bills. Anybody who is interested in this please ring the Rescue Helpline 01469 561000.

HOMINGS 2011 SO FAR

So far this year we have homed 24 cats and kittens and also reunited 2 cats with their relieved owners. This is about the same as last year at this time and is quite satisfactory given the current economic climate.

ART EXHIBITION KEELBY

The Rescue will have a number of prints by Pat Francis for sale at the Art Exhibition at Keelby Church on the weekend of the 6th and 7th August. These prints are quite excellent and highly recommended.

NEW HOME FOR JASMIN

We are pleased to announce that a nice lady has agreed to foster Jasmin and she is settling down well in her new home. Hopefully she will enjoy a long and happy retirement.

FOSTER HOME FOR JASMIN

Jasmin Jasmine has recently joined us at the Rescue after having been found wandering the streets. She was extremely thin and dirty but very friendly! Due to the fact that she is most likely in her late teens we are looking for a foster home for her where she can have lots of TLC. Any necessary vet treatment will be paid for by Second Chance Cat Rescue. She does not appear to mind dogs (as long as they are not too boisterous) and would probably be alright with another cat. If you feel you could offer her a home and would like more details please ring the helpline no. 01469 561000. She is waiting with her bags packed ready!

GRIMSBY TELEGRAPH MISSING PETS PAGE

Some of you may have noticed that the Missing Pets page has gone from the GT web site.
Northcliffe Digital has been rebuilding its network of local newspaper web sites on the same technical platform that powers the Local People network of community sites. The revamp is supposed to increase the amount of local content, discussions, pictures and events, and make it easier to navigate.
We have lost a useful facility for lost pets as the new format will now not support static pages.
We can add our own articles or picture galleries and that can be a missing pet and it will flow into the news channel. However it is not as convenient to find and use as having a seperate page which was like a notice board where the items were available to view for months.
We will try that for now but I am considering setting up a seperate NE Lincs Missing and Found Pets site which should not be difficult to do or administer.
This will not effect the Rescue Lost and Found page on this site however which will continue as normal.

KEELBY FLOWER FESTIVAL

St Bartholomew’s Church, Keelby, hosted its annual Flower Festival over the late May Bank Holiday weekend. This year’s theme was Saints and the Saint chosen for our display this year is St Gertrude of Nivelles —The Patron Saint of Cats. Our thanks to Charlotte who prepared a lovely display on behalf of the Rescue.

CHEQUE PRESENTATION - CLEETHORPES COLLECTABLES

Dot on the left receives cheque on our behalf from Sue Ireland. Dot Holmes (left) recently received a cheque to the value of £300 on behalf of Second Chance Cat Rescue, presented by Sue Ireland from Pals Fundraiser and Cleethorpes Collectables.
Many thanks to Sue, Pals Fundraisers and Cleethorpes Collectables for this splendid donation.

MICROCHIPPING MAKES SENSE

Second Chance Cat Rescue strongly recommends all pet owners to have their animals microchipped.
Chipping is performed by all Vets and can be incorporated into their annual health check and vaccination. The procedure consists of a simple injection under the skin on the neck between the shoulder blades which will leave a small chip containing a unique reference number. Your details are held on a central database by the chipping company and will include a description of the animal and any health problems that it may suffer from.
Once implanted, the chip will last for the life of the animal. Please remember to update your cat’s record should you move house etc.
All stray animals picked up by Second Chance and other rescue services are routinely scanned to see if a chip has been implanted. If one is detected, we will be able to make immediate contact with you leading to a happy reunion. We have had a number of cases over the years where a cat has been referred to us and, by having this chip, we have been able to reunite kitty and relieved owner. This is not at all uncommon and is often reported by other Rescues in the area as well. From the Rescue’s point of view it is the ideal outcome for all parties.

HOMINGS JANUARY 2011

At the time of writing the Rescue has homed 4 kitties this month which is a very good start to the new year.

EASYFUNDRAISING.ORG.UK

The Rescue has recently opened an account with easyfundraising. This will enable us to raise welcome additional funds. Please check out the details on the Fundraising Page of this site. For those of you who shop on line using this facility will generate small donations to the Rescue from your seller at no extra to you and may even produce a small discount for you as well. Please give it a try.
